Much to the delight of crypto enthusiasts, the blockchain platform built by one of the United Arab Emirates’ 2 major telecoms operators has received an official endorsement from the government. The endorsement is received as part of the country’s blockchain integration. The news is confirmed by company’s executives in a press release on April 3.
Notably, Du created its Blockchain-Platform-as-a-Service (BPaas) to offer cloud-based private blockchain hosting compatible with both Hyperledger Fabric and Ethereum. Du was formerly known officially as Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company.
Interestingly, the platform has received the seal of approval from Smart Dubai. Smart Dubai is the government organization in charge of transforming state-level services with the leveraging of disruptive technologies by 2021.
Du’s deputy CEO of enterprise solutions, Farid Faraidooni commented in the press release that the Dubai blockchain agenda is an integral strategy for the city’s future and they are delighted to be an important enabler for the digitization of the government.
He added that by building on top of their BPaaS to support the country’s digital transformation, their blockchain endorsement by the Smart Dubai Office is a significant step towards providing smart solutions that generate efficiencies for government transactions leading up to 2021.
Notably, the announcement comes the same week as the United Arab Emirates hosts a dedicated conference on blockchain’s role in the aviation industry. A similar conference addressed cryptocurrency more directly, last month. At the conference, authorities hinted at the requirement for supportive regulation of the phenomenon.
In the intervening time, Smart Dubai also aims to put into practice advances such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) as part of its roadmap.
Wesam Lootah, CEO of Smart Dubai added that the city of Dubai has pioneered blockchain from the onset and continues to be a universal leader in providing a novel and enhanced ways to put into practice and set the future roadmap for the evolution of this ground-breaking technology.
