Felix Kjellberg, also known as PewDiePie on his youtube channel of 93.7 million subscribers, is partnering with the blockchain and cryptocurrency-based content streaming platform DLive. Notably, PewDiePie is a Swedish YouTube star with the highest number of subscribers on the platform.
The Youtube star recently declared that he will be producing weekly live streams exclusively on the decentralized, blockchain-based platform. The platform currently has over 3 million monthly active users and thirty-five thousand active streamers. Notably, DLive promises content creators a much larger part of the revenue compared to YouTube and Twitch. The platform allows viewers and content creators to earn rewards in Lino, the native cryptocurrency of the Lino blockchain.
The founder and CEO of DLive, Charles Wayn aims to construct a community of content creators based on equitable profit sharing. In a letter to DLive visitors, the famous youtube star slams traditional platforms for their corporate controls and voracity. Wayn stated that,
“Most of us started creating or watching content on YouTube or Twitch. As content creators, we work hard to entertain and bring our ideas to life. We’ve contributed for years and witnessed traditional platforms grow from their infancies into billion-dollar companies. However, what have we received in return? Higher monetization bars, unfair content promotion, and fewer earnings because of increased platform fees.”
It is to be noted that the countdown is on to PewDiePie’s 1st live stream on DLive on April 14. Interestingly, the site features a donation pool of rewards points to assist in supporting various content creators who contribute valuable content to the platform.
Notably, DLive platform launched last year. Moreover, the platform reported paying a combined $2.6 million in cryptocurrency to creators in the form of upvotes, donations, and gifts, as of June 2018.
